New Short Story Available: "Improper Ideology"

A quiet honeymoon in Spiceport. What could go wrong?

Gwendolyn, a Goblin scholar exiled from her homeland and Hendrik, a renegade Human Alchemist, have earned a honeymoon with no monsters, no cursed forests, and no ancient horrors.

Just books.

Books, of course, are where the trouble starts.

On the voyage to Spiceport, the couple shares a ship with Chancellor Harlan, the newly appointed head of the Human University. Harlan has firm views on which ideas deserve to survive, and he has no patience for inconvenient evidence or for scholars who question doctrine.

His destination is Falconridge Hall, home of Duchess Hailey and her remarkable library of rare accounts from the Human Kingdom's earliest years. Some scholars call it a treasure. Harlan calls it a fraud, and he intends to prove it by ruining the Duchess and burying her books with her reputation.

But when a library is threatened and the truth is on trial, a historian and an alchemist can't simply turn the page. Armed with sharp minds, steady nerve, and one deeply questionable alchemical invention, they set out to protect the collection, outmaneuver a powerful rival, and show that knowledge withers when dogma takes the place of curiosity.

No swords. No sorcery. Just two scholars, one stubborn Duchess, and a fight over what counts as truth.

Improper Ideology is a warm, witty fantasy of love, friendship, and academic intrigue, set in a world of Humans, Goblins, Ogres, Elves, merchants, and adventurers. It's perfect for readers who enjoy clever protagonists, found family, and stories where wit beats power.

A Gwendolyn and Hendrik short: “A Very Simple Request”

“A Very Simple Request” (This story takes place after "Dragons of the Crystal Forest" and before the events in "The Onyx Temple) Hendrik had come to the Human Capital to visit the University. He hadn't been there in years. Not since he had first tried, unsuccessfully, to petition for a place in those halls. At the time, he hadn't had status, money, or contacts. He hadn't stood a chance. Within the tall white walls of the Human Capital, The Palace Complex stood behind a second set of walls up on the highest hill. The complex included the Palace itself, the University, the Library, the Temple of the Sacred Flame, and the Guilds Tower. Of these buildings, only the Temple and the Library were, at least nominally, open to the general public. As he crossed the elaborately tiled courtyards with bubbling fountains of the Palace Complex, Hendrik smiled at the sight of the Library. Built of polished white marble with stained-glass windows and crowned with tall spires, ...

The Kingdoms and the Void

About one hundred years ago, the Goblin Kingdom was ascendant, the center of culture and power for the other Kingdoms: Human, Elvish, Ogre, and Naga. The Goblin Kingdoms were ruled by a long line of wise Goblin Queens. The forces of the Void Cultists however gained a foothold in the Human kingdom, corrupting the Kingdom and allowing the Void to grow in power. The other Kingdoms, along with about half of the Human Kingdom and led by the High Paladins, formed an alliance under the Treaty of Love, but it was almost too late. The forces of the Void fought the allied Kingdoms, and all of the Kingdoms suffered tragic losses. At last, the Goblin Queen Gabrielle fought with the Void’s Disciple directly using the ancient Crown of the Goblin Queens, sacrificing herself to defeat the Void.   Queen Gabrielle was buried in a tomb, along with the crown of the Goblin Queens, at the site of the battle. The Human High Paladins rebuilt the Human Kingdom, vowing that the Human Kingdom would be...

Meet the Ogres of "The Last Goblin Queens" setting

Of all the Lineages of the Kingdoms, none are more physically imposing than the Ogres. Ogres are, on average, the tallest and strongest of the Lineages, broad-shouldered and powerfully built. Their gray skin, blunt horns, and striking purple or blue hair and eyes make them instantly recognizable wherever they travel. To many outsiders, an Ogre’s size alone can feel intimidating. But the greatest strength of the Ogres is not simply physical. It is memory Ogres possess extraordinarily developed mind-body awareness. They have exceptional balance, an instinctive understanding of space and movement, and memories so precise that an Ogre can walk a mountain trail once and remember every turn decades later. A master craftsperson may recall the exact weight, shape, and balance of a tool they handled in childhood. This has shaped Ogre culture in profound ways. While Humans build archives and Elves preserve knowledge through scholarship and the Dreaming, Ogres carry their history within themselve...
