Humans are of medium height compared to the other Lineages, with skin tones ranging from light tan to deep brown, and typically dark eyes. While their appearance may seem unassuming next to the more visually striking Lineages, Humans have long shaped the political, commercial, and alchemical foundations of the modern Kingdoms.
Human Alchemy is most closely associated with Distillation, the careful purification of materials into concentrated Essences. Where other disciplines may combine or transform, Human alchemists refine and reduce, stripping away everything unnecessary until only the purest expression remains, the distilled truth of a substance’s nature: a tincture of cold, an extract of sharp, the essence of heavy, or the concentrated memory of heat.
At the heart of Human civilization stands the Human Palace, located within the walled port city of the Human Capital. Built at the center of trade routes and sea lanes, the city has long served as both a commercial hub and a political anchor for the Kingdoms.
But the history of the Human Kingdom is not a simple story of stability.
Re-founded after the devastating Voidwar a century ago by the High Paladins of the Sacred Flame, the modern Human Kingdom was born from ideals of restoration, justice, and moral renewal. In its earliest years, it was shaped by a vision of fairness that sought to rebuild what had been lost and protect what remained.
Over time, however, those ideals have shifted.
What was once a pursuit of true justice has, in many places, become a system of laws, structured, enforced, and often rigid. Order remains, but the original sense of purpose has become harder to find beneath layers of administration and tradition.
Still, within the Human Kingdom, there are those who remember what it was meant to be. Reformers, scholars, soldiers, and ordinary citizens continue to debate, challenge, and reinterpret what justice should look like in a changing world.
In the setting of The Last Goblin Queen, Humans are not rulers above the rest, nor relics of a fallen past. They are one Lineage among equals, shaped by history, constrained by institutions, and still capable of change.
And like all the Lineages of the Kingdoms, their future is not yet decided.
